Club Fundraisers
Flag Placement - The Capital City and Host Lions have put out flags at participating businesses on every national holiday for the past 40 years. Flags are distributed between 6:00 am and 6:30 am on the assigned days, and returned to storage between 4:00 pm and 4:30 pm. The contract price for one flag, put out at a business 8 times a year, is $48.00. The flag committee, headed by Jay Miller, orders arranges and cares for our flags, installs flag holders, assigns flag routes and bills participating businesses.
Yard Sale - Most of us have been to a yard sale. Usually in the spring, people go through their closets and other storage areas to dispose of less used items. Members of Capital City Lions bring these items together for our bi-annual yard sale which is held in the parking lot of Valdes Paint and Glass. Bernadette Pesenti-Valdes chairs this fundraising effort by organizing and pricing the many items donated for sale. We use this fundraiser strictly in support of our sight programs.
NFL Raffle - In late July or early August we start our NFL Raffle campaign. At a cost of only $20, each ticket purchased is eligible for all 17 weeks of the regular NFL schedule! NFL teams are listed alphabetically, and assigned numbers. Each ticket then has five random numbers assigned weekly for the entire season. The scores of these five teams are added together to determine weekly winners. This weekly raffle has a graduated pay scale for the Highest Five Team Total down to the 8th Highest Total and for the Lowest Five Team Total up to the 8th Lowest Total for each week of play. The NFL Raffle is chaired by Chuck O’Donnell and is done in conjunction with the Silver Hills, Maryland Lions Club.
